Orange Wax, Deodorized

This is a deep orange-colored, semi-solid plant-derived emollient for use in personal care and industrial products. Our Orange Wax comes from the peel of the orange and is part of our continued support of the environment within Koster Keunen. With this Deodorized Orange Wax, we upcycle and repurpose this waste material for a second life, away from the landfill. Orange wax is a secondary byproduct of the juice market, where the peel is considered waste. The wax comes from processing the discarded peel through water distillation (no chemical solvents), reducing what goes into the waste stream. A final simple and green processing at Koster Keunen makes the finished emollient with no additional waste stream.
In nature, there is purpose. The protective layer of the fruit, the peel, provides a barrier and stops the orange from drying out. The botanical lipids within the peel are also beneficial to our skin, acting as emollients to shield, moisturize and lubricate the skin.
Koster Keunen’s Orange Wax can be used as an emollient or solid ester in any personal care product.
There are always concerns when using citrus products on the skin due to the phototoxic potential. To ensure the safety of this product, Deodorized Orange Wax was evaluated for phototoxic potential. Using a third-party testing laboratory, 100% Orange Wax was topically applied to test for any phototoxic result. The conclusion of the study showed no adverse reactions recorded, no dermal response after 72 hours, and zero phototoxic potential.
Orange Wax is proven to be non-phototoxic at 100% and therefore safe to use in topical applications.
Orange wax has many key features and benefits including as a natural colorant, the addition of a citrus scent, emolliency, and vegan.
The Koster Keunen formulation team has created many personal care formulas including skincare, color cosmetics, and hair care products. Our Citrus Hair Masque is a sulfate-free condition mask that uses orange wax for emolliency and shine to leave the hair soft, supple, and shiny. We have also used our orange wax in a few formulas within our waterless formulations as a low melt point emollient.
